Week 4- Art & Design
Art & Design
On Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4th October we took part in Art & Design lessons where we completed prints and 3D dimension art. On Tuesday we created loads of patterns on an A3 size piece of paper expressing loads of feelings and thoughts. For example one feeling we had to draw was anger- many of us draw deep angry lines onto the paper with a Graphite pencil. Another feeling we had to express was peace. I used a pencil and drew light circles continuously. The next step was to photocopy our work to then create a 3D Dimmension, we had to cut and fold the A3 paper into a shape and using our photography skills we then captured shadows that the Dimmension was creating. Chloe and I took some photos in the projector room, it was a small area in the dark with an projector with many patterns and colours. We took many photos with different patterns to experiment with shadows and lighting. My examples are below.
On Wednesday we spent the class creating prints from our drawings we created the day before. I've made prints before in secondary so doing this again meant I could include the skills I knew already into this lesson. The first step of creating a print was rolling out ink onto a plastic cover till it was completely smoothed out. We then rolled the roller onto another plastic sheet where we then placed down our patterns we had collected from old wallpaper. Once we placed paper over the ink and wallpaper we placed it onto the press where we had to turn the wheel anti-clockwise. The next step was placing the wallpaper design between two sheets of paper and putting it through the press for the second time. This created the final print onto the A3 paper. My prints are shown below.
Making the prints was my favourite part of the Art & Design carousel. I enjoyed it because we were using materials I haven't used before, like he press machine. Thoughout the lesson there were important health and safety rules we had to understand when working in the print rooms. The machinery around us was dangerous if you wasn't careful when walking around the classroom. You also had to wear an apron and plastic gloves throughout the session because if the ink ended up on your clothes it wouldn't be easy to wash out. Lastly when clearing up the class room there was a special chemical substance we used to clean the plastic; using too much of this chemical substance would have been bad for us in the room because it has a very strong toxic smell. Using this chemical we had to be careful and not over use it.
Working with the Art & Design course for the couple of days gave me many skills and learning a lot about the course. I learnt how to create 3D Dimensions and how to create prints. Including my photography skills meant I could experiment and show off my skills in photography. Taking the images of the 3D dimensions was my favourite and strong part of the Art & Design carousel because I could include my photography skills and captured some great shadow images. After the carousel it taught me I should definitely work with the art department to capture some amazing photographs which I will include in my book.
